What will you See in New York City?

A recent survey of New York City visitors and those planning upcoming trips to New York City provided a listing or collection of the most popular attractions in the city.  While the results may not be surprising, they may be extremely helpful as you plan your next visit to the Big Apple.  Let’s begin by looking at the list.

1. Empire State Building – Built in 1931, because of the attack on the World Trade Towers on 9/11, the Empire State Building has regained its dominant position in the iconic New York skyline.  The observation deck is open daily providing spectators a birds-eye view you will not soon forget.

2. Statue of Liberty – Built as a gift from the french and completed in 1886, the Statue of Liberty stand in the center of New York Harbor.  Located on what was once know as Bedloe’s Island now commonly known as Liberty Island, the statue is only reachable by boat.  Ferry’s run from several different ports to the island every day.

3. Grand Central Terminal – Commonly known as Grand Central Station, the terminal is located at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.  It is the largest train station in the world and is the main interchange for New York subway system, Long Island Railroad and Amtrak trains.

4. Rockefeller Center – Rockefeller Center is more than the well-known 30 Rock but actually a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres.  Rockefeller Center is located in Midtown Manhattan and spans Fifth and Sixth Avenues.  Prominent attractions include the center art (& its iconic angel statues), the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, the GE Building and Radio City Music Hall.

5. Ellis Island Immigration Museum – Ellis Island was once the “turnstile” to America, prosperity, and millions of dreams, it is now preserved as a museum featuring the rich history and is run by the National Park Service.  It is located in the Upper New York Bay and can only be reached by ferry from either Communipaw Terminal or Battery Park.

6. Staten Island Ferry – The Staten Island Ferry is a passenger ferry service operated by the New York City Department of Transportation.  For many, the ferry is the only way to travel between Staten Island and Manhattan.

7. American Museum of Natural History – The museum is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.  It was founded in 1869 and is still one of the most visited museums in the world.  Among its collections include the Hall of Ocean Life (featuring a life-sized model of a blue whale), Human Biology and Evolution, Halls of Minerals and Gems, and Halls of Meteorites.

8. Central Park – Located in the center of Manhattan, Central Park receives roughly 25 million visitors every year.  Its 843 acres stands out like an oasis surrounded by concrete.

9. Metropolitan Museum of Art – The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located on the eastern edge of Central Park and contains more than 2 million works of art.  The museum contains works from classic antiquity, ancient Egypt, works from all the European masters and an extensive collection of American and modern art.

10. Museum of Modern Art – The Museum of Modern Art is located in Midtown Manhattan on 53rd Street.  Its collections include works of architecture, design, drawings, painting, sculpture photography, prints, illustrated books and film.

While mass transit and taxi cab to these attractions and their ferry terminals, many are finding it both convenient and affordable to include a luxurious limousine in their memorable outings.  For just a few dollars more than a taxi fare, scheduled limos provide the security and knowledge that your ride will be there when you need it to be.  Limousines are no longer just for weddings and senior proms.  Their drivers know the ins and outs of the city and her rich history many times better than most tour guides.  In addition, limos provide cleanliness rivaling most five star luxury hotels.
