I won several provincial competition in computer programming, math, and english.
I’ve got great recommendation from my teachers.
I participate in a lot of extracurricular activities, such as soccer, piano, volunteer work, photography, martial arts, etc.

those are all VERY competitive schools. many qualified students are NOT admitted.

but it looks as if you have a good record, and your chances are good. even though we live in the USA, we can’t predict college admissions.

I have some questions about “extracurricular” on resumes?

This is for college btw, and im in high school. All my junior friends and counselors are teling me about the resume and how you need to be doing some extra work to build it up. They have things like “winning a competition in some sort of program” or “best student” or “top 5 winner of scholastics” awards and I don’t have any of those. What could be used to replace them with ? Or what could be just as competitive? I’m only a freshman.

If you’re only a freshman, then you have over 2 years (sophomore and junior year, plus the fall semester of senior year, including the summers as well) to get extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities are important, and basically just means that you participated in stuff outside of school (whether it’s a club, hobby, etc).

Colleges also look for volunteer activities, and like you noted, they also look for leadership and awards. Just join a few interesting clubs and participate in a few contests; they’re fun and will look good on the resume

Colleges don’t really look at anything before freshman year (i.e. middle school), so it’s not like you’re really behind or anything.
