Best Photography Magazines For Beginners

Which is the best phtography magazine please?

I have a compact and I am saving up for a bridge camera. I tried reading Amature photographer which was OK, but not really aimed at what I wanted. is there a photography magazine in the UK that is good for beginners to intermediates? I am looking for one which is in simple English and not all this jargon. Thanks very much.

Most photography magazines are going to be filled with “jargon”. And many with advertisements as well. The jargon is what comprises the art and execution of photography, and if you are serious about learning the craft you will have to learn about it. Composition and lighting are the same for any camera, from simple P&S to the most advanced dSLR. So are the basics of forming exposure, although your compact may not have adjustable settings. Your bridge camera will.

That said, I am in the US and do not know what magazines you have in the UK. I would suggest a visit to the library or bookstore and get a beginner book on basic photography and composition. That will explain the terms you will need to understand, and perhaps be more helpful overall than a few articles in a magazine. Have fun in your new hobby!
