I need help figuring F-Stop, ISO, shutter speed, etc !!!!?

So I'm taking a photography class and I am using a Canon AE-1 Program. The goal, he says is 28 mm. I have a roll of 24 exposure film that I have developed on Friday. I am using Kodak plus-x 125 film. I really do not understand what an f-stop is, the shutter speed, and all I really know is that the iso has to be 125 (which is the same as my film). Could you give me a mini tutorial on those three things? Is there a setting to solve all have to be in? I am very confused! We've only had one class until now, where I got the camera from him and he explained things, and generally how to develop the images.

ISO is a measure of the length of time it takes to get a good quality image at a certain speed shutter speed with a given amount of light. The higher the ISO the less light is needed. ISO is what "ASA" used to be. ISO = 25 is a film "slow" that require a lot of light to get a quick exposure time. ISO = 800 film is considered "fast" and would be a good night photography or photography in low light. His ISO is the equivalent of ASA so if your movie is ASA or ISO = 25 = 25 then you need to set your camera to ASA = 25 to obtain the correct light metering. Shutter speed is the amount of time the camera shutter is open, usually measured in fractions of a second. A slower shutter speed would be something less than 1/125th of a second. The fastest shutter speed I've seen in an SLR camera is 1 / 8, 000 second. The diaphragm is a way to know the size of the opening "or hole that light passes through. The higher the number the smaller the hole – 1.4 f stop is a fairly large hole for the light pass, a 22 f-stop (f/22) is quite small. A small "open" requires more exposure time or shutter speed slower (same). A smaller opening will increase the "depth of field" or the distance from the plane of the film (where the film is) that will be in focus, but there are limits to this because of something called "diffraction", which will soften the focus a bit. His film is probably, ASA 25, not 125. As you can tell there is much to be learned about photography at a technical level. I hope this enhances your appreciation for the good photographers – Is not as simple as it sounds! Welcome to our world?

manual control of exposure?

I love photography and I plan to go to college so I thought this year for Christmas I would get a Canon Rebel XTi. I played around with them at Circuit City, so I know it's the camera I want. Now I know there is more to photography, so that school starts I'll probably take over the night, etc., but my question on manual operation. This may seem a very stupid people who know a lot about cameras, but I was bound and tied with a Kodak Z740 thinking it was the best thing in the world (before I burn the photograph). What is the function manually, what are the advantages and disadvantages of this functionality, and sites would be useful tutorial.

Manuel is the way to control the automatic cameras are slaves cameras creativity manual, you are the creator of the depth, speed, etc. start using now

How to expand my knowledge of photography?

Hello

I am very interested in photography, and I really like my Nikon film camera. My pictures turn out great, but I guess nothing compared to real professionals.

The problem is – I am still not knowledgeable in the technical part of it!

I’m finding it kind of difficult to grasp the basics (aperture, shutter speed, exposure…) !! It’s kind of frustrating, because what I want to do is get out and shoot and practice but I don’t want to waste the enormous amount of money it takes to develop 20 + films.

I do have access to a digital camera (sonyalpha), but I really feel like I need to learn the basics first.

Can anyone help me out? Give me a short tutorial? Provide me with an easy step by step website? This would be really helpful.

Thanks
Are you referencing taking a photography class that anyone can take in the community, or a college/university based class?

I have sold some photos to those websites, but they really don’t make me a $buck.

I started out by making several trips to my local library. I read literally every book they had on the subject.
After that, I knew about the subjects I wanted to learn more about and it was easy to google those key words. The internet is stuffed full of resources!

Then I joined an online photography club that has us do weekly challenges according to a theme which are then judged by everybody. No money involved, just virtual ribbons in return for incredible amounts of learning. If you want to know the website, send me an email and ask me about it.

You have taken the right steps, wanting to learn, and you will find it super easy to find way more material than you could ever need.
