Why do so many people think they can make a career out of photography?
It’s so annoying because there are so many no-talent rich kids who think they can buy a camera and become a photographer. It’s almost as bad as law degrees now.
What do these kids not understand? Anyone can pick up a camera and take a picture. Furthermore, anyone can learn the tricks to make their pictures look better. FURTHERMORE, anyone can use a camera. The industry has to be cutthroat. Anyone can hire their friend’s kid to take pictures at their wedding or for senior pictures. It’s such a joke. How can any of these people make money to live on?
Why do their parents encourage them to waste money on “careers” like this?
I’m not going to say this applies to all aspiring photographers, but much of it has to do with the misconception that it all depends on the photographer’s natural born eye for quality pictures. Unlike painting, sculpting, or many other arts, the quality of a photograph is harder to distinguish to the untrained eye. Everybody loves their own creation, but without just as much training and experience as any other art, you will not be competitive. A professional can see clearly the different between an amateur’s photograph and someone who is skilled.

How do i get my parents to let me go to more local shows or concerts?
i used to go to alot. ive been to around 16 in the past 2 months.
recently theyre started saying no.
i pay for it…
i dont get it.
i want to go see hedley soon. theyve said no. theyve started saying no to everyhting that has to do with photography and mostly shows and concerts. those two things are my LIFE. no joke.
how do i get them to start to say yes again?
What did you do to make them say no? If you’ve been responsible in the past and you’re paying for your tickets, they wouldn’t stop you.
Did you get home later than you had promised to? Are your grades slipping? Are you using more profanity than before? Analyse your behavior, you might be doing something that seems ok to you but isn’t.

Wanting to begin photography…?
I want to purchase a new camera( most likely a dslr) because im really getting into photography; right now i have a nikon coolpix L4(pretty much a joke of a camera). Anyways I need some advice on how to pick out which camera I should buy. I dont Know much about dslrs and need someone to explain to me the basics.
I plan to take a wide variety of pictures but mainly: close-ups, portraits and pictures of people.
My price range is Below $800 including lens and accessories

It’s in your best interest to find a local camera shop and talk with them. You will be able to handle the cameras and see which feel good in your hands and which don’t. The kit lenses do a good job of covering a wide variety of shooting situations and can hold you while you learn more. The lenses will be more important as you can select a particular lens for each shot you take.
The high end brands to look for are Olympus, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sigma, Leica, Agfa, Fuji, and even Sony (they took over the camera business from Konika Minolta). All of these companies have been making camera for decades. Olympus, Pentax and Sigma offer several top quality choices with lenses in your price range. They alos offer more features and great professional quality images for the same and even less than Nikon, Canon, Leica and Agfa.
I use an Olympus E-510. You can find Olympus E-4xx, E-5xx series cameras for around $500-$700 with lens. The new E-620 offers features you won’t find from Nikon or Canon and comes with a lens for about $799.
