Photography Equipment For Beginners
a good beginner DSLR…?
I was wondering what would be a DSLR camera to start with?
Landscapes and people would be my main concentration. I’m planning to take some photography classes, after i get the camera (since the classes require a camera).
What camera* would you suggest for a beginner like me?
*quality equipment at an affordable price
It seems that most of the pros use Nikon or Canon, but there are other good cameras out there.
If you decide to move up from beginner, both companies have cameras to suit your increasing demands. A benefit to sticking with one company is that your lenses and accessories may continue to provide service.
Look at the high end products from Nikon and Canon. Which would suit your ultimate goals better?
Personal opinion:
Canon’s upper end lenses are the BEST
Their entry level cameras are comparable

Learn Digital Photography – Nature Photography Techniques For Beginners
Research your subject
A good knowledge of your subject is essential. Knowing when it feeds or what time of the day a flower opens or when there is dew on the roses will enhance the possibilities of a stunning image. A good nature photographer is a good naturalist or ornithologist. There is more to being a nature photographer than just shooting images. Try visiting your location or subjects several times before starting your photography so that you get to understand their environment. Read books, join societies and search the internet until you feel you know enough about your chosen field to start shooting images.
4. Find a suitable location
All wildlife or nature photographers aspire to shoot the big five, humpback whales or the elusive snow leopard. These are not the place to start unless you live on a game reserve or at the coast. Find a place close to home like your back garden, a local botanical garden or even a zoo. Somewhere you can be comfortable and practise without major effort. Try things on a small scale and work upwards as you gain more experience and are up to the challenge. A good location with good subjects will spur you on to greater heights.
5. Specialised equipment
Once you have been through all the previous steps and gained the knowledge, skills and experience it’s time to decide if this is for you and worth the investment in better, more specialised equipment. Only once you know what you are doing and if this is for you, should you consider investing in more expensive kit. A good tripod, specialised macro lens or a long focal length zoom or prime lens are essential to the advanced nature photographer. Unless you know in which direction or specialisation your photographic journey is taking you, don’t specialise and waste money on kit you cannot afford.
Nature photography can be one of the most fulfilling areas of photography and can reap great rewards. It takes time effort and a lot of practise so be prepared to dedicate your self to many hours of waiting and preparation. A good nature photographer is a good naturalist or ornithologist. Where’s a good place to pick up on the basics of photography for a future hobbyist?
Well, as both a musical performer, and a visual artist something I’ve always admired are photographers. There seems to be a good balanace between equipment, knowledge, and talent.
I just find photography very captivating and was wondering if any of you could give me some friendly tips as to which books are a good read (whether it be text, or a website!), how and when to pick out a first camera. Really any other tips or tricks for utter beginners would be great
. Thankfully I’m already solid with Photoshop, and a few graphic programs.
Keep in mind I just want a hobby but I’m willing to spend some money here (I’m not asking “What’s a good camera for under 200$?”)
Thanks
The best way is to learn with a photographer while he/she is on a shoot coz they have practical knowledge as well as the equipment they tend to use more as per the circumstances. If you plan on a nature photoshoot of a person it’s different and if you want to capture the nature then it’s a different thing thus if you look up some photographers who work professionally for some Media Channels or discovery channel then you’ll benefit. If you google some you may find some names or approach some Media centers and ask for their photographer, tell the person of ur interest and ask if you can become a temporary associate just for learning sake if they don’t agree ask them for the best possible way to learn photography and also for some good colleges.
