Now that the internet is available almost everywhere and many people have computers in their own homes, it is easier than ever to work from a home office. Sometimes it can be hard to make a good wage doing it, but many companies already have telecommute days as well as other opportunities. Some people even run entire small companies with little more than a home business computer.
If you’re going to work from the comfort of your own house, a home business computer is a must-have. You need it for business applications as well as for internet access. In some cases, there might even be a home office tax break available, but be prepared to jump through a lot of hoops in order to get it.
Of course, there are a lot of options when shopping for a home business computer. It is good to think ahead about what your business entails so that you make a wise choice regarding the right computer.
- Unless your business is involved with video editing, photography or has some other media rich requirements, you probably don’t need a machine with expensive, high-end graphics. Obviously, you won’t be involved in activities such as gaming or watching movies on a business computer.
- PCs are usually a better choice for software office suites and the variety of other programs available. Macs, however, are a bit simpler to use and can be a better choice for photography work.
- Don’t skimp on the screen. It doesn’t have to be the best of the best, but you will probably be staring at it for hours on end. Your eyes will be more comfortable with a bigger screen and you can add a UV filter to it as well to combat glare.
- Many home business computers are used mainly for clerical activities such as typing, spreadsheets, and web browsing, etc. For this, a laptop may be sufficient. It is true that desktops provide more computing power per dollar, but then you’re bound to the desk. If you don’t really need a robust computer, it’s nice to be able to do your work anywhere you want with a laptop.
