Youth Sports Photography – Electronic Flash
It is almost common knowledge these days that flash underexposure is caused by the unit having insufficient power to cover adequately the flash-to-subject distance. For example, an important youth sports photography tip for you to know will be that no small flash unit can light an object that is more than about 10 m (33 ft) away, and even quite powerful flash units cannot adequately light an object that is more than about 30 m (100 ft) distant.
Uneven lighting is caused when the flash is unable to cover the angle of view of the lens – a problem most often experienced with wide-angles, another problem that is usually encountered in youth sports photography when an attached lens or lens accessory blocks the light from a camera-mounted flash.
Solution
For close-up work in youth sports photography, reduce the power of the flash if possible. When taking youth sports photos for distant subjects in the dark – children playing in the field, for example, or at different sports games if you run a youth sports photography business, using flash is usually a waste of time and is best turned off. A better option is to use a long exposure and support the camera on a tripod or rest it on something stable, such as a wall or fence. With accessory flash units – not built-in types -you can place a diffuser over the flash window to help spread the light and so prevent darkened corners when using a wide-angle lens, which can be very useful for youth sports photography.

should art be confined to moral or cultural boundaries?
I’m all for free speech and being able to express oneself HOWEVER, seeing photographs of 12 year old girls in the nude is not my idea of art, not is Jesus getting rammed in the hoohaa by a certain other revered religious figure*(not naming names). I have to wonder if there aren’t certain moral and cultural limits which we should adhere to, if only for the sake of cultural harmony. It’s funny to make a crack about the government, sporting figures and celebrities are pretty much open game, but mocking the core values which many people would gladly die for (or kill someone else for)? even if YOU think child nude photography is art, some people would be HIGHLY offended by it and take it the wrong way, likewise with making fun of religious figures. it’s a joke to you but to many people you might as well have slapped them in the face, it’s that insulting. censorship people might not be the best strategy but is expressing yourself really worth antagonizing a very large number of people?
Rational laws aside, an artist should be free to create. And the public free to BUY the art, hate it, or ignore it.
The public should NOT be obligated to PAY for art that is so bad that it will not sell on it’s own merit.

I don’t agree.
Art is about expressing the negative as well as the positive. If someone wants to detail Christ’s suffering in their art, I’m all for it.
There are ancient statues of nude children. Nude doesn’t necessarily mean sexual; or even if the nudity is meant to be sexual, it isn’t always in an overly distasteful manner (there is a fine line between porn and art) but why should art that has been admired for centuries suddenly become taboo?
Likewise mocking religious figures. People will moch each other. I find many things highly offensive that I wouldn’t dream of trying to ban or censor. I just avoid those particular things/opinions.
Me? I’m not an artist, but I am a writer. I frequently write about “ugly” things. For example, I wrote a short story about a girl who finds out that her girlfriend is cutting herself. They argue, then the protagonist (Audrey) leaves her girlfriend (Callie) sobbing and bleeding in her bedroom, as Callie has promised to call her in the morning.
The next morning, however, Callie’s mother calls. Callie had taken a deliberate overdose and killed herself. Audrey reads the suicide note, that explains that Callie couldn’t deal with her sexuality.
It was in my portfolio for an adanced creative writing class, and one of the readers said, “The Callie/Audrey story was very powerful, but it was so controversial. You should have put something else in the portfolio, because the whole class will read this.”
I wanted the Callie/Audrey story though. I wrote it because I characterized two seperate people from the thoughts in my head at the time- that I wanted to commit suicide (I was cutting at that time also) and then to have a completely “out” and secure character in the mix. I needed to write that story, and I think that people who want to understand me need to read it, too.
