Should I upgrade my camera or lens?
Here’s what I have:
Sony A230
50 mm f/1.4
kit lens (18-55 f/3.5)
I have around $600 to spend. I use my camera for on-location portrait photography for families and children. Sometimes weddings. I charge a minimal fee and don’t up-charge for prints. I already have all the accessories (external flash, softbox, backdrop stand, tripod, etc) I’m trying to decide whether to sell my camera and upgrade to a better camera with better low light and more megapixels…Or upgrade my zoom lens? Which would be the most beneficial to my photography?
I think the best thing you can do would be to keep saving. Even if you sell your camera, $600 won’t buy you a decent professional camera.
Also if you are going to be doing weddings, you will need a second camera anyways. The A230 would be a nice backup.

What gear should I get next?
My birthday is in the end of this month, and my parents are wanting to know what I want, but I honestly don’t know what I need!
My limit is $500 or less
What I already have:
-Nikon D200
-18-55mm
-70-300mm
-50mm f/1.4
-External flash
-Softbox & flash sync cable
-Tripod
-Reflector disk
-Bag
-Filters/cleaning kit/2 batteries, 8GB & 1GB card
I want to stay away from lens, as I think I am ok with the ones I have, being that the f/2.8 zoom lens are $1,000+
Here is my photography btw if it helps: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vangorkumphotography/
@chinnese_people,
calm down…im only 17 and when I see a chance to get more/better gear I will! I have very few chances in which money and gear can be gifted to me, so if I buy something, I want to make sure it is a wise choice. This isn’t about wanting more gear just because…as you can see, I can’t afford the $10,000+ studio that most of you can.
Happy Birthday! :^)
You might want some wireless triggers for that flash (I recommend RF602′s). Maybe another flash? YN560′s are good.
If you want a wider lens, then what about the Sigma 10-20mm – great for landscape and more ‘interesting’ portrait work.
Or a dedicated macro (though this is less needed as you get good results with your reversing setup).

Photography Lighting?
So, I have been searching for a good continuous softbox light. Some of them I notice have 4 light sockets in them. What exactly to you call those? Wondering if you can buy them separate instead of having to buy them with a light kit. Thanks.
Something like this?

Search google for 4 socket video light or four socket continuous light. Lots of options with and without lighting kit.
