Where can I sell old photography equipment?

And when I say old, I mean old! I have a lot of lenses from my humble beginnings in film photography. I have Canon FD lenses, compatible with their A series of film SLRs, that I’m looking to get rid of.

Are there any sites, aside from ebay, that I can sell them off to? Like, a photography buy-sell-trade forum, or something? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. :D

Since you don’t indicate where you reside, I cannot give you anything area-specific.

One option is a camera show, where people buy, sell and trade their gear. One here in New Jersey is held on the second Sunday of every month, with schedule adjustments for holidays; the April show, for example, will be held on April 19 because of Easter on the 12th.

In addition to KEH, here are some other places to whom you may sell your gear:

B&H Photo (NYC) http://www.bhphotovideo.com

Adorama (NYC) http://www.adorama.com

Used Camera Buyer (Ashland, VA) http://www.usedcamerabuyer.com. This is a division of Shutterblade (http://www.shutterblade.com), which sells used gear on eBay.

I’ve sold gear to B&H, but not the others.

Conversely, I’ve bought Hasselblad stuff from Shutterblad via eBay, and have never been dissatisfied, nor have I had problems.

Another alternative would be to take the items to an eBay drop-off store, where they’ll help you with listing it, and they’ll cut you a check, less their fees, typically for about sixty cents on the dollar of the sale price.

There’s always the pawn shop route, too.

BROKEN CANON EF 50mm f/1.8 II LENS – HELP!!!?

my poor 50mm lens :( !!
anyone know how to fix it?! it broke in 2 perfect halves.
these pictures aren’t mine, but this is exactly what it looks like. :(

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=377824

anyone know how to fix this?? or have an estimate of how much it would cost if i were to get it repaired?
(I Live in Toronto.. and I’m thinking about going to Aden or Henrys to get this looked at)

Also, please don’t tell me to buy a new one.. I would, if I had enough money right now, but i dont :

thank you sooo much in advance!!
Sigh, I knew I would end up having to buy a new one. Thank you!

On a side note.. What are your thoughts about a Fisheye lens?

The Canon 50mm f1.8 II is very cheaply built. That’s the catch of the superb optics at such a low price. Fortunately it is also easy to replace. If you are OK with used lenses, the older generation (Canon 50mm f1.8 I) are actually a bit more durable.

As for fish-eye lenses, it all depends on what type. If it’s under $150-$200, it’s likely to be an add-on lens – one that screws on the end of your lens like a polarizing filter. Beware of these – they have very horrible optic quality, and you will end up with fuzzy photos with chromatic aberrations on everything that’s light in color. It takes more to build a quality fish-eye lens than any other type of lens. If you need a wide-angle lens, I would suggest the Sigma 10-20mm, which delivers decent optical quality for a relatively low price.

Comment/Critique on photography?

My boyfriend has been working a lot on his photography lately, but it doesn’t matter where he posts his pictures, he doesn’t seem to get many comments/advice/critique. So I thought, why not ask yahoo answers, I know there are a bunch of photographers wandering around here.

Here’s a link to his most recent pictures: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/picture-post/photography-by-gutbust-added-one-more-new-poll/t.50403973_1/

Just any kind of advice on how to improve, or get better angles is great!

He uses a Canon 350D in case anyone wants to know (he would love to upgrade to a Canon 40D though, but doesn’t have the money). He also uses a tripod for some shots, and sometimes uses my photo studio.

Oh wow, I think his pictures are great.

I don’t like the one of the moon though, it’s not really creative.

Other than that I think they’re all great.
