Taking and selling photography?
Okay I’m 17 and want to start my own photo and video company I’m working on the website right now, but i have few questions. What kind of legal documents and such do i need to sell photographs that people pay me for “weddings, sporting events, ect..” ? Where do i get model release forums? Do i have to have permission in a legal form to put their pictures on my web site as examples? Just give me all the information you guys have, id greatly appreciate it.
okay what about my fine art photography how do i go about selling that. “the picture part is not a problem im a fairly good photographer” i just need the legal bits and licensing and how to sell type of deal.
Generally you do not need any forms to to display and sell your photographs. Your intended uses would come under two categories , editorial and fine art, both do not require any releases or permission to sell.
Weddings and sporting events etc. are usually held on private property and you usually need permission to enter the property and there may be conditions required by the owner for the taking and use of the the images.
For commercial use, that is where the photograph is used to sell something else, you need a model release from any people featured in the photograph and in some places buildings are copyright so you need owner’s permission to use them for commercial purposes.
Displaying examples of your work usually does not need permission so long as they do not imply that the subject is endorsing your work, then you need permission.
It gets more complicated if you are employed to take wedding photos, the copyright ownership may rest with the client rather than the photographer. This is often clarified in a contract or terms of trade given to the client.
