I need a digital slr, and I need your help?
I’m looking for a digital SLR and I’m just not sure which way to go.
At the moment I am still a beginner in the land of SLR Cameras. I’ve worked with an Olympus Evolt E-500 a bit. For some reason I’m drawn to Canon’s digital slr line. After doing a lot of research it seems that the pictures I fall in love with have been taken on canon cameras. I know that photography is an art form that takes studying and practice but I think having the right equipment will help me on my journey.
It is very important for me that a camera can handle many different situations. I’m a professional ballet dancer so I need to be able to capture fast movement clearly. I also love to take still photos and portraits. At this point I don’t have a clear goal of where photography will take me but I will start taking photography classes soon and hope to develop this art form.
Thanks for your help everyone! If you need more information to answer this question correctly just let me know.
Your main issue will be the lenses. If you hope to shoot dancers without flash then you will need a very fast lens. As most similarly priced DSLRs offer similar features, you might want to consider the type of lens first and then a body to suit. The lens will likely cost you more than the camera body – but will be essential for fast movement under varying stage lighting.
You most certainly cannot hope to meet your needs with a Panasonic P&S as another post suggests. The sensor is too small and noise prone for stage work.

Starting a business in photography ?
basically im looking to do a small time (for now) business in photography doing shoots for modeling and portraits. i have all the equipment i need (minus some backgrounds and printing equipment but not a problem im getting that soon), my question is; are there any legalities i really should be aware of in respects to doing photography of this kind.
obviously im not looking to do any pornography shoot, literally just people who want professional quality photos done for their own personal use (i.e. family pics, portraits, etc) – suffice to say ive put together a ‘publications contract’ just to clear up any copy right problems (potential problems anyway) but is there any form of consent forms i need to sort out? (UK law)
ive tried searching around on the internet but the flood of information i get is hard to sift through.
You will need some model release forms. Property/Adult/Minor. http://www.professionalphotographer.co.uk/Magazine/Downloads/Model-Release-Form
If you want to do families etc, it may pay you to get a CRB check done, so that way you will be able to do minors. Yes, parents will feel a lot safer if their little one was being photographed by someone who has been checked.
Have you sorted out your insurance yet?
Personal, Equipment, and Public Liability.
Thats all for starters.
Hope this helps, and yes, I am in the UK.
