Which is the best lightmeter for me?
choices i’ve researched:
- Sekonic Flashmate L-308S Light Meter
-Gossen Digisix Light Meter
- Gossen Lunasix 3 S
I want a light meter, because after learning and practicing “zone photography and previsualization” my centre weighted meter isn’t quite enough.
I may also do some strobing in the future.
Can i use these light meters (especially the cheap sekonic) for landscapes? How would i just the reflective meter in landscape scenerios?
It will be usefull if the meter has some kind of guide numbers to make minor adjustments (i.e. meter a zone 3 area, recalcualted from the medium grey. This is so I don’t have to do the calculations in my head)
Do i need to be standing next to my subject when i meter? i.e. landscape scenerios?
those are all incident or scene meters
what you need for the zone system is a spot meter … the best being the old pentax spotmeter V.
and what you do with a spotmeter is carry a gray card with you, and place it in your landscape, point your meter at it and voila instant zone V reference. find the darkest spot in your scene, and the brightest spot. then write down the difference. this lets you know whether you need to overexpose or underexpose, and overprocess or underprocess. expose for shadows, process for highlights.
and with a spotmeter you don’t stand next to the subject… you stand next to the camera, since it has a 1 degree angle it can meter far, far away.
if you want to buy new the seikonic L-358 can have a spot accessory attached

Give me a photography assignment =)?
Okay so, I love photography! I use a Nikon D40. I photograph absolutely everything, usually within my comfort zone, but I kinda want a challenge, so just give me an assignment, either an object to photograph or a mood to catch or something like that, just something to get me thinking about my photographs! to give you ideas what is outside my comfort zone…what is IN my comfort zone would be things like
flowers, family portraits, most nature, and typical modeling pictures. Thanks guys!
plus…how do I chose a best answer?
Try night photography, I need to learn to do this myself. Or try abstract, take a picture of something that others may not be able to tell what it is, but yet still make it look interesting.

What can I do to keep a woman from seeing me as only a friend?
It’s easy for me to be friends with anyone. However, it’s quite a challenge for a woman to see me beyond as a friend. I don’t know why this is the case. I’m a fit 27 yr old grad student getting his MBA who’s also working full-time. On the side, I’m also pursuing my aspirations in photography-writing. I’m active in sports, like tennis, when time permits. I’m looking into expanding my interests as my job and community work’s vested in the underserved communities. Perhaps, my current activities are what keep my friendships from becoming more. I enjoy what I’m doing and believe that the right woman will come along naturally. However, is there really any way for me to keep a woman from seeing me as just a friend, especially I like her?
Anyway, this quarter, I just a met a grad student at class whom I’m getting along with and would like to pursue something more and not be type-casted as just a friend. She and I click. Suggestions to naturally propel the path towards beyond friend zone?
You definitely have lots of things going for you, that most women would appreciate, I figure.
I think the way some women separate the “just friends” from the “studs” they want over for a glass of Merlot and then some, is how one projects oneself. I don’t know your personality, but perhaps you may want to display more confidence when talking to your target ladies. Part of this involves voice tone (do you have a high-pitched one.. if so, need to work on that) and body language. How’s your posture?
If you have any buddies or acquaintances or extended family members who are real lady charmers, you may want to meet with one of them for coffee and see if you can pick his brain re: the attraction matter.
