How do I get my photography noticed?

I am somewhat into photography and my friends say that some of my pictures are really good. I was wondering if there is any free websites or magazines I could put photos that i’ve taken in. For example in Country magazine there are photos are for sale in them. Is there anywhere where i could sell some of my really good pictures?

I suggest spending some time at the library looking through magazines – fashion, photography, automotive – and comparing your pictures to what you see in the magazines. Then spend some time looking at greeting cards and calendars, again comparing your pictures to what’s used by those companies.

Once you see what’s being used then you will have a better idea as to how your efforts compare. Relying on the opinions of friends is seldom a good idea.

If you really think your pictures are good enough, contact the magazines and greeting card and calendar companies and request their submission guidelines. Follow their guidelines to the letter.

deviantart.com is pretty good and free. You kind of have to wade your way through all the anime and millions of pictures of digitally adjusted eyes, but it’s a great place for displaying your art, posting on forums, chatting with other artists, etc.
