Is my senior schedule ok for UC’s?

I feel kind of bad that I am not taking that many classes this year. It makes me feel like an underachiever or something and makes me worried that I won’t get into a good college. I plan to go to one of the UC (university of California) schools. My schedule: english AP, economics H, calculus AP, photography, art media.
Bad? Alright? Will this make or break me in admissions decisions?? which UC’s will this schedule be totally ok for. I have average SAT scores, but a 3.8 GPA and tons of service hours

Perhaps if you have no classes that you want to take at your high school, consider taking a late afternoon/night class at your community college or a saturday class. Then you can still have more classes but you have more options of what to take. Perhaps getting those pesky general education courses a start like English 101 and the like. Then it’ll be much cheaper. If you live in California, tuition for high school students are free at community college. All you have to pay for is fees (my CC is about 40 dollars a quarter but I’m not taking any science or art courses) and textbooks. I had two classes during the summer quarter and spent about 100 on books. About 140. Not bad.

I would say five is fine. I’m probably only taking four at my high school senior year (AP lit, AP stat, nanotechnology or AP physics, Civic/economics). This year I’m only taking 5 at my high school (Trig, physics, honors American lit, architecture, US history) but then over three quarters I’m taking English 101, Korean 3, Intro to Korean pop culture, astronomy, and another class most likely.

You can always start on general education if you have time and then UCs can see that you can actually handle a college setting and the workload.

Good luck!

Art School Portfolio?

So I’ll be applying to art school in the fall to get a BFA in Photography. I’ll be applying to these schools:

-Academy of Art University
-California College of the Arts
-Otis College of Art & Design
-Parsons School of Design
-Pratt Institute
-San Francisco Art Institute
-School of Visual Arts

I wanted to start taking pictures for my portfolio now so that when it comes time to put it together I will have plenty of pictures to choose from. However, my brain is a little stuck trying to get ideas. I was wondering if anyone had some ideas for pictures to help get my brain going. Thanks! (:

Oh, and I’m going to hopefully become a fashion photographer one day. So anything with fashion or edge is a plus.

I work as an Admissions Counselor at an Art School.

1) Call these schools and ask them what they would like to see. Each school wants something a little different in a portfolio.

2) Be creative and push concepts

3) Don’t forget about craft. If you don’t know the first thing about how to take a formal photo… take some photo classes at a local Community College.

4) Photographs of babies, pets, friends, monuments, and homeless people are cliche. Don’t include them in your portfolio.

5) Great list of schools. Decide what you want in a school if it is Fashion Photography Staff don’t go to school in SF. NYC or LA are much better locations and you will make connections while you’re in school.

6) Go to National Portolio Day in LA next fall. Check out http://portfolioday.net/ for info.

7) Go to local galleries (unless you live in Laguna Beach then go to LA) and see what contemporary photographers are doing. Don’t just look at fashion magazines. You are not yet a fashion photographer and unless you work with real models… amature fashion photos suck.

What’s the best art school in San Francisco for Photography?

Academy of Art University, California College of the Arts, or Art Institute of San Francisco

- Thanks!

Academy of Art University is a great school to go to for Photography. I studied it there and learned a lot! Since all of their instructors are industry experts, I was able to get a lot of valuable information, while preparing for success in life after college. Once I graduated, I landed a great job. Some of my friends who have graduated from there have also gone on to work for big-name companies. You can see a list of companies that hire Academy grads on their website at http://www.academyart.edu/photography-school/index.html.
