What is wrong with the kit lens?
Review of some photography forums, I met some people underestimate the objective of kit that comes with the digital SLR. For example, take the Canon 550D. They are saying that the kit lens (18 to 55 or 18 to 135) results in poor quality images. Is it really so? If so, what should be the best alternative?
Cheap plastic construction, glass cheap, bad variable opening, the body of cheap plastic, very soft … Do not get me wrong target, but worth learning in … A better alternative (in order of preference) 24-70 f2.8 L series and / or 50 mm f1.4.

What is a good cheap SLR/sub-SLR in the uk?
I want to upgrade from a compact after doing a course at school and finding it somewhat inadequate. However I am not that interested in photography to justify high costs.
I only want a single lens which does most jobs and various abilities such as:
RAW image capture
control over aperture
control of time the lens is open
etc.
Can you please also redirect me to a good review/forum site for matter such as these.
(I apologise for the lack of proper terminology but I am unable to check my notes right now).
I want either an SLR and lens kit or a “sub-SLR” which has most of the SLR capabilities but has the lens integrated.
I recommend Sony DSLR-A200K Digital SLR Camera + Zoom Lens Kit (18-70 mm F3.5-5.6)

or try to Canon EOS 1000D EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (non IS) Lens Kit
