Community/JR colleges in So Cal, Los Angeles area, for liberal art transfer?

Hi I am from Portland OR
I am graduating in June
And I would really appreciate info on some good colleges I can start majoring in art, graphic design… perhaps east los angeles, pasadena, riverside, santa monica, ventura
Personal testimonies would really put thing in perspective
If you could describe your experience, what the present situation is like at the college

ALSO, I need info on how to live there as an out of state student, how is finding a job like?
Im still figuring out the financial aid but I have applied for it
How did it work for you? Is it enough to live from ?

And how is the area, people, scenes, places to go things to do, crime rate,
any and all info..

I am itching to get out of Portland, lived here all my life. Looking to major in art focus on photography, hobbies include long boarding, water sports, snowboarding, music, want to take up surfing, so a place near the beach would be preferable as a place of residence

And thanks for your time!

I understand your frustration with Portland. It is a nice city, but it has its limitations.

However, if you want to come to California to attend community college, you should first spend a year here working and establishing residency as it is not worth paying out of state tuition to attend community college and virtually no financial aid except for loans is available. Most community colleges list the qualifications for residency on their websites. If not, contact their registrar’s office for information.
.
Essentially, residency is never established by moving to a state for the purpose of education. This means that you cannot enroll in any school of any type until you have been living here for a year.

You also need to change your drivers license, vehicle registration, voting registration, etc. It helps a lot if you work and pay California income tax.

The best public community college academically and for transfer purposes in southern California is usually considered to be Santa Monica College in that beach city, I do not have information on a photography program there, but I am very skeptical that photography abilities are significantly improved by studying in college. I believe that it is better to study privately as an apprentice with a skilled photographer. There is also a shortage of work for photographers, except possibly for wedding photographers.
