Start with the basics before deciding you “want to be a pro”
The amount of money earned by a professional photographer varies greatly and there is no concrete answer to this question.
It is very difficult to become a “famous photographer” much like it is very difficult to become a “famous” anything.
If you want to be a pro, you must start with the basics. Whether or not you actually become a pro is based on whether or not you actually develop the skills and motivation necessary to pursue photography as a career.
Learn about photographic exposure, what affects exposure, how to control these things. Use an SLR camera or at least a camera which allows you to manually adjust shutter speed, aperture size, and ISO sensitivity.
Learn about visual composition. What arrangement of elements in a photograph are visually pleasing to the human eye?
Learn about light. Specifically how to control it and modify it, whether it is natural light from the sun or artificial light from a bulb or studio
strobe.
It sounds like you are still in high school, if not younger. Try to join a photography club at your school, or be a photographer for the yearbook if they have one. Take art classes and ask your art teachers about visual design and compositional elements. Photography is an art, and it uses many basic principals found in other visual art forms.
Learn how to use Photoshop and software similar to photoshop. It is the industry standard for professional photo editing and it will be for many years to come.
I don’t think Harvard has a degree program in photography, I’m sure they offer classes, but they probably do not offer a Bachelor’s degree in photography.
There is no “best” camera. A good stepping stone is to start with a camera which allows you to manually adjust shutter and aperture settings as I previously mentioned. From there, work with what suits your needs. Nowadays, probably a digital SLR.
There are good places to take pictures everywhere! Just as an example, many of the most famous photographs involve people or landscapes. Ansel Adams, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, are just a very small example of famous and legendary photographers. Basically, Adams work involves landscapes, Newton and Avedon’s work involves people.
These are just a few pointers to get you started. Have fun.

Day 3: The photo essay was popularized by Lange and other photographers during the 1930s. Photo essays by Lange were published in various magazines and reports from the 1930s to the 1960s.
