How do you make a professional photography portfolio?
Im going to a college day on wed and i need to make a portfolio of all my photos i have taken. but i dont know how to arrange it. should i put them all in there or do it by date or theme? help me please.
i have some that are 8 by 10s and some 4 by 6s.
and also should i write in the margins? to explain the photos?
First of all, you NEVER make a folio of all your photos.
You gear your book to whatever job you are going for.
If it is for a college entrance then you need to pick the best 10-12 (the college should advise how many they would prefer and sizes).
Make them all the same size.
8 x 10 at a minimum.
11 x 16 would be better.
No, you do not write in the margins. If you need to explain the shots then you give that information when they ask.
If you have a mixture, for instance, fashion, landscape, still life. Then group them. Do not jump from one type to another.

How should a photography portfolio be organized?

I’m an amateur at photography, I have quite a bit of shots and I’d like to start a portfolio. It’d like to have one because I’ll be taking a photography class in the fall. My question concerns how the photographs should be organized. Should I place all the best shoots form one shot together or spread them around with other shots from other shoots? Is there a certain way it should be organized?

portfolio organization depends largely on your audience. i.e., who is going to be looking at it. many artists make the mistake of designing the porfolio for themselves. determine what it is your client is looking for. ask as many questions as possible or find out info about the client that will give you some clues as to what to include and omit.
if you just want to put together a broad porftfolio organize by subject: landscape, portrait, abstract, etc. within each subject try to organize thematically. keep photos from the same shoot together.
