Should I go to college for photography?

I’m 16 now, and I absolutely love photography. I have taken Photography class every year in high school to now, and this year I’m going to be on yearbook, and do Advanced Photography again to perfect my AP Portfolio. My ultimate dream would be to go into photography as art.. I know it’s not easy and not lucrative, but I’m really willing to wait it out.
I would want to attend college for photography maybe somewhere in New York or something, but I don’t know if it would be a waste of time, or if some colleges provide immediate jobs upon graduation..

Please help!

Thanks :)

If you are ready to grind it out as an artist, go for it! It’s a hard career, but it’s not impossible.

If you aren’t 100% sure you want to do it though, I would say go to school at a liberal arts college where you can persue more photography classes and maybe another degree that would lend itself to a more readily available job. Photography is a great hobby to have and you could even earn money doing it on the side, displaying work in galleries or what have you. Who says an artist can’t have another “day” job?

Photography classes in New York?

It’s about time that I choose a college. I want to go into the career if photography. Is there a college, which I’m sure there is, in New York that teaches phptography, helps you to get imployed after graduation, accepts out of state students, and isn’t in a scary location, but still in manhattan? Help?????

FIT meets our description perfectly! check it out! the fashion institure of technology. it’s 28th and 7th, which is the heart of manhattan.
i take saturday high school classes there, but am seriously considering it for college. i love it!
the photography program there is brilliant..well all the program there are, but the photo dept. included. they help all their students find jobs after graduation. and it’s a CUNY school so it’s very cheap! and well-known/respected. i would for sure check it out if i were you.

One of my main goals in life is to live in New York, is it really that glamorous as its made out to be?

Im 16 and live in a small town in the UK, and with my whole life ahead of me, all I really want to do is visit and possibly live in NYC. Its portrayed as a beautiful city and it is my dream to live there, but is it really as glamorous as they say?

The other thing is that being this young, I know its going to be a longggg time before I get a chance to even visit as my family arent very well off. How expensive would it actually be to live in New York? And what kind of well paid careers are available in the city? Im really interested in Fashion and Photography, and feel that NYC would be a great place to start off, any ideas?

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to know if this dream is worth following. Thanks (:

want to see real new york city, not from TV shows,
