Photographers – How much interest is there in online marketing tools for independent photographers?

I’m a independent Photographer and I couldn’t find a very good way to market my photography online (other than as stock) But with stock you lose soooo much money. I’m now looking into designing some tools photographers can use to help market their work. Bringing customers to photographers, proofing tools online and etc. Just want to know how much interest there is and see if anyone has some ideas to help. It’s all about Photographers helping photographers. Thanks in advance.

There are already multiple sites on the internet that help provide photographers with online tools.

collages.net and ourphotoevent.com are two of the biggest online sites in the photography business to help us out. They offer a wide variety of tools such as online proofing, online ordering, online CD creation, mailing lists, event tracking lists and much more.

So, if you are to create an online site, you are going to have an extremly tough time breaking into a business where the product has been pretty much perfected at a very reasonable price.

How’s my website (and what marketing tools would work best)?

I am looking to book weddings and I’ve been getting tons of kids for senior pictures (and I love it) but the money is in the weddings.
I don’t want to waste time with things that don’t work, and I also would like some feedback on my website so far! I have a very UNtraditional take on photography. Thanks everyone for your help!

I agree with Gordon – Flash is not a good idea for two reasons. One the search engines don’t like it, which doesn’t help your visibility when someone’s searching for wedding photographers.

The other reason is that it takes too long for the visitor to get to the answers they want. If your site comes up on a search engine, I want to know immediately whether you do wedding photography or not.

As with any marketing, go where your target market gathers or work with businesses that have the same target.

Therefore, hook up with local wedding planners, florists, limo hire, venues and outfitters, to name a few. The links should be reciprocal so that if you receive an enquiry about wedding photography, ask if they’ve sorted out their flowers and pass them on to your florist contact.

The other places are wedding fairs, wedding supplements in local press and web directories for weddings and planning.
