What’s your favorite book on lighting?
Which book, preferably something involving lighting technique in photography, would you recommend? And no — strobist.com is not a book 
im not to sure…so i just googled it and this is what i got…hope it helps, if it doesnt, im sorry! I hope someone else will give you the answer your looking for =)

How do I begin learning photography?
I would like to start learning photography, but I’m not sure where to begin. I thought that taking photos would be a nice idea, but my pictures came out badly, so I now think that there’s some lighting techniques, etc., I should learn first?
I have a crappy little digital camera, and I don’t want to invest in anything bigger until I kind of know what I’m doing.
Where do I start?
before you start… you should set your camera to black and white… thats the way to learn its like the training wheels.. because you wont have to worry about colors yet. it will really help you TRUST ME!
well you should read some basic articles on photography sites such as

learn how to work your camera and if it has a guide mode work with that
also kenrockwell.com is the bible. work with that.
also hit up the library read a few books on the basics such as composition and lighting

what is this technique in photography called?
i remembered that a long time ago i saw a photo on flickr. the girl took the picture of herself and it was normal brightness but then a random streak of red appeared. i dont think the photo was processed but i think she used an old camera or something? it appeared in a random spot where (im not sure if its right but the light bled through or something?)
anyway it wasnt a normal mishap either because she has many photos of the same thing

Most likely the seal on the camera has developed a light leak that is allowing a streak of light to overexpose part of the image when the light strikes the camera at a certain angle.
