How to find interesting places for portrait photography?

I live in Kearney, NE and there is not much to this area in terms of places weight for the portrait, however, may be simply because they never come true. What do you experienced? "Just drive around your area? Are you going to travel by road picture? Do you ask other photographers?

I for leaf through galleries of portraits on the line not necessarily give exact locations, but to have an idea of different places that look good in photos. I live in a more rural area of Michigan, so access to the stables and fields is easy. Cityscape type of images can be a little harder to get, anything that does not seem to redneckville, USA, but if you want bad enough, you can drive 45 minutes to get somewhere a little more urban and populated areas. I do not drive around specifically to find film locations, but I have to drive around some of my "real" job, so make a mental note about different places, how they look, in general, and also during different times of day. When I get a request to make a specific type of portrait with a specific type of background, either in front of a barn or pond or fence, I can come up with something in a day or two. You really need a place that looks unique, it is safe, with a surface suitable for shooting portraits. Usually something background without distracting too much or things that do not fit with the rest of the fund. Best of luck to you!
