Non-SLR Digital Photography Books?

I’m looking for some Non-SLR focused Digital Photography books. I’ve found a few highly recommended/rated books, however they are all focused on the use of SLR digital cameras.

You could probably get a lot out of the DSLR books. I have a point-and-shoot as well as a DSLR canon camera, and they both feature Manual and semi-manual settings (M, P, Tv, etc). Try reading the manual, play around with the settings, and read the DSLR books. The DSLR books will be able to tell you a lot about depth of field, composition, lighting, shutter speed, and other DSLR features which also apply to canon point-and-shoot cameras that have manual settings. Basically the only thing you won’t be able to do is focus manually, and change your lens from the 35 mm that most (if not all) point-and-shoot cameras have. Because of this, and because point-and-shoot cameras have a much smaller image sensor, you will lose some control over depth of field, but it is still possible to get good effects using your own body to “zoom” (move closer or farther away) in combination with digital zoom.

Anyways, I don’t know any point and shoot camera books, but DSLR books will still have a wealth of info for you.

EDIT: I googled your camera and see that it features an optical zoom lens which can be interchanged for other lenses. This means that you actually CAN get quite a bit out of DSLR books. I suggest even more strongly to pursue translating the DSLR information into your more basic camera functions.

I really want a book full of photographs for my birthday.

every photographer should read Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. it is full of great pictures as well as some great text about exposure and how to get the right exposure. the written content is not the usual boring technical stuff but interesting tips and techniques you can apply immediately.

A well-rounded picture good book?

I wonder if there is one, I really I have no time / money to take real courses. Each photo book has been a lot of concepts going in my head, I just need to take better photos in the technical aspect of all. Anyone can point the angle and click a button. I want to learn more about how to maximize the team I have.
