Photography Games For Children
Which law do you hate and would you like to go or change?
They are doing a game on my BBC Local Radio station about that and I just got a mention for mine. It was that I would like the laws about photography (the child protection act 1994). I then put down that it is so bad I’ve had to stop taking photographs. I saw a family take a picture of some children on a ride but as there was a swimming pool in the background they got into trouble. I then put down that I would like to make it ok as long as they just get their own children in. Which laws do you hate and would like to get rid of or change? They are saying that the deputy prime minister is setting up a site.
Everything that lets crooked businesses hide behind untraceable telephone numbers and mail forwarding addresses.
Big problem with the DPM website is that people are going to vote against things based on what they have read in the newspapers and these are almost invariably wrong

Lens question: 18-200 or 70-300mm?
I’m really starting to get into photography and don’t know which lens is better for my interests: I’d like to take portraits (couples and children) as well as shoot at basketball games (I get press access so I can get really close to the action).
I’ve heard really good things about the 18-200 lens but want to know if the 70-300 would suit my needs better? Please help me decide. Cost is not as important as how often I’d use the lens.
BTW, I already have the 18-55 standard lens (not VR) and a 50mm 1.4.
Thanks in advance, and I always reward best answer for my q’s!
Unless your shooting at things hundreds of feet away, a 300 lens is going to bring you big problems. For example the lowest fstop is going to be around 4 or 5.6 or smaller. That may be ok when shooting during the day but inside will drive you nuts as you won’t be able to get it open enough with a fast shutter speed to get a good exposure. Another thing is having a 300 lens means your minimum shutter speed will be 1/300 of a sec. Now I understand that a 300 lens will bring you closer to the action, but it pays a big price. The lens will be unwieldy. which is bad for sports and the angle of view is tight, so you won’t pick up much action. Of course a 300 lens won’t even begin to focus for at least 6 feet, being close to the action as in basketball will be a huge problem. I understand that it’s a zoom and you don’t have to always be at 300, but it’s still a 300 lens. It’s going to be a heavy lens too- no matter what.
A 18-200 is a better choice. It opens up more, isn’t as heavy, is wider and is more appropriate for close in shots like basketball. It’s going to be a “faster” lens too, so you can use a higher shutter speed and still get a good exposure.
If your taking portraits you want big light, opens up and such, a 300 is very inappropriate for this. Do you really want to be 20 feet away just to be able to get everyone in a portrait? I can’t image anyone buying that lens and expecting portraits.
EDIT: if you buy the 300 but don’t use it at 300, but closer to 200 or so then why would you buy it?

Should physical education be a required class in American schools?
If you think about it, it really shouldn’t. But because of how many obese children there are in America it is. Seriously though…will 45 minutes of exercise (very miniscule exercise) like running a lap then then playing a little game of basketball help kids lose weight? There are so many other things kids could be doing in school (like actually learning something). I personally dropped P.E. this year and took B&W photography instead. It’s something i like for once. It gives me a reason to go to school now. But i still know that im going to have to make up another year of P.E. eventually. So heres my question.
Do you really think P.E. should be a REQUIRED highschool class to graduate?
I personally believe P.E. is a necessity because not only are americans obese, but it also has other benefitcial factors to it. It keeps you in shape, keeps you focused, gets you more relaxed, relieves mental stress from work, etc… you may think 45 min of just a lap and a game of basketball mean nothing, but the activity itself helps you relax from a full blown day of boring classes you don’t like showing up to….
