Photography Textures?

Do you think that people would buy texture packs/collections or does everyone just use free ones online?

I am curious as I can not find any texture collections for sale. (outside of stock websites)

No, I just don’t think there is a market for that for the simple reason that ANYBODY can shoot textures. Just take a photo of nearly anything with any semblance of texture or patterns and it can be used. There is really just no limit to the FREE supply of things that can easily be used as textures.

I honestly think it is a foolish waste of money to buy textures. NOT saying I don’t like them, I use them a lot, but there is just no sense buying something that is so easy to do yourself for no cost.

Best way to sell my photography?

I was thinking about selling my photography. I am an amateur photographer. I’ve checked into selling them online but it seems too complicated for a first time seller. Would it be better if I printed them out and framed them and sold them in flea markets are yard sales?

What do you guys do? What do you think?

well, to be honest, its not your photographs which you need to sell, its your services as a photographer which you need to showcase…

selling singular images is an ebay special.. its hit and miss, BUT, art, well, each to his own, and you only need one person to stop.. and go wow… simplistic, but true…

i keep a portfolio of work on facebook… i can access it anywhere, i carry a handheld tablet, i get chattering, and i can show them what i do… instantly… and, for those who havent got a pad, i give em my card… which belive me, isnt a homer special. its got the name of my company, a landline number and a web address… trust me, when everyone throws their cards on the table, mine stand out… its black red and yellow.. but, having a presence is what generates work…

by all means shoot your own stuff, hone your skills, but look at a bigger picture… (sorry) you will sell a great print on ebay, for a couple of quid… shoot a party, for 100 quid, and do 250quids worth of reprints… then theres engagement parties and baby showers, and weddings and christenings… this is the real bread and butter, keep a roof over your head job… the real question is, are you serious, or is this just a hobby, which whilst fun, isnt something you would like to consider earning a living doing? because it makes a difference…

one way to get a start is to approach your local library, and ask them if they have an empty wall or two, and arrange for a show… if your still at college see of you can blag it as part of your coursework.. (tip) your photography will improve immesurably when it has a purpose… its not just about making a buck, ive been doing this 40yrs… from beauty queens to accident victims scars… im trying to say, our work sells us, and we sell our work…

in a world where everything is mass produced, and identical, people strive to be different, to have different views, to have different art on their walls… its one of the few things we can fit into our anonymous boxes which make it ours… theres a market.. but you need an ebay size audience…

you could approach a pub, or hotel, and offer them prints of the area and the surrounds for a few quid… it wont actually cost you anyting, because you will use a digital camera, show them on a laptop… and photoshopping aside, its instant… then you get them printed… (my printer will do an A3 print, 250gsm lightfast ink, on fuji / ilford paper for 3quid… (20x16inches)

and of course, theres the local football club, rugby club, cricket match, tennis golf.. sporting events… local games are usually free, esp in teh amatuer games… go shoot one or two, and show your work on teh clubhouse 50inch TV… and offer prints…

you can make money, and develop a career, but you have to think outside the box, be different, stand out, dont blend in…

Selling photos online (deviant, flickr, etc.)?

My dad is a professional photographer, who recently decided to sell his photos online. He already sets up shop in festivals (you know, those 10×10 tents). Profit is quite good. His photos ranged from $20 ~ $400. So can any of you let me know of a good site to sell his prints, with the option of frames, matting, etc. No ebay please. Also, please inform me on how much commission is taken from each sale from certain sites. I’ve been considering deviantart for a while. If you have had experience with selling photography online, then please without hesitation, tell me of your experiences (good and bad). Thank you very much!

Almost everybody in the world owns a digital camera, and more than half of them consider themselves to be photographers. If there was any effective way of selling images online – for amateurs, all of these people would be wealthy.

The short answer is no.
