What photography equipment should I buy next?
I have a canon xsi, a tripod, a 70-200mm f/4L, 50mm f/1.8.
I have just saved up 900 dollars.
What should I buy next?
A flash? or another lens?
That depends on the type of shooting are you going to be doing. Are you shooting indoors primarily? If so, invest in a flash. If outdoors, invest in a wide-angle lens. Are you planning to shoot macros? In that case you should probably invest in a decent macro lens. Are you shooting portraits? Then an 80mm prime lens would be a good choice. For $900, if you look around, you can probably get a decent lens and a decent flash. If you just aren’t sure, and seeing as you have a pair of lenses, go with the flash – it comes in handy in quite a few situations, even outdoors.

Is Abe’s of Maine a trusty source for buying photography equipment?
I am planning to purchase their package which includes a Canon rebel XS with two lenses and a bunch of other stuff. But many of their reviews say they aren’t friendly. The other reviews however, are excellent…
Anybody tried them?
No, I have not tried them, and will not. There are good reviews, … and quite a lot of bad reviews. You can usually figure for every one bad review that one person bothers to write, there are likely many, many more people who never speak up, or don’t know of the site, or whatever. Sometimes the less than honest sellers will also post bogus good reviews to sites such as Reseller Ratings.

When in doubt, don’t do it.
There are two sources where you NEVER have to worry. B-H and Adorama. Also, Porters is excellent, though their prices are higher.
I suggest you only order from any of the 3 vendors above and you will be assured of no problems.

Did I spend too much on photography equipment?
I spent £571.
I bought the Canon 450D with 18-55mm lens, Two 2gb memory cards for it, a bag and a filter (helps keep the lens clean and protect it from scratches.)
I’m clueless when it comes to photography. It’s for my fiancee. She’s wanted the Canon 450D for ages and it’s sold out where we live.
If you got what you wanted within your budget then NO you didn’t spend too much.
