Help with my photography :]]]]?

Ok, i have a name for my photography im nearly 14 and i have a great portfolio i know i cant now but when can you start an apprenticeship in photography and do you have to be at a specific part in your career BEFORE you can become a freelancer i want to travel all over i’ve seen so many places that are gorgeous im going to canada with my dad soon and what specific parts that would be great for photography (eg sights, historic buildings, and streets) im also going to go to malta :]].
i don’t care if i don’t do my smileys up to your standard!

Ara57 your right i dont like to post the “best” work because sometimes people tend to copy and i don’t want to risk that

most photography studios want you to be at least 18 to work there, and even more want you to at least be starting towards a degree in photography before they’ll consider you for an apprenticeship. the last semesters in getting a degree are dedicated to work-shadow programs and building your portfolio up so once you graduate, you’ll have the foundation for a career in the field. being your age, i would recommend getting your start with the school newspaper or yearbook staff. most high schools also offer some sort of photography course.

anyone can be considered a freelance photographer as long as they take photos as a service. freelance just means that you are no attachted by contract or have a job with a studio, newspaper, etc. i do not work for a studio or a newspaper or am contracted with a stock photo company, thus when people pay me for my services – i am considered freelance.

as far as where to take photos in canada, depends on what part you head to. victoria is very beautiful and has nice archetecture. i’d also consider vancouver being that it’s big city. with the advancements in digital photography, you can shoot any and everything you see that you find interesting. just remember those little screens on the camera never give you a decent preview — shoot, shoot, shoot, and upload to your computer then make your judgement call on whats keepers vs. what can be deleted.

Does McGill University in Canada have a decent arts program?

I’m considering McGill as my college of choice (I adore French and I’ve always wanted to study in Montreal), but I want to have a career in photography (as of now, but I’m only a freshmen and don’t really know what I want yet.)

I don’t think McGill has a photography program or any other fine arts programs, for that matter. When it talks about “arts programs” on its website and brochures, it’s referring to humanities programs (e.g. English, French, Linguistics).
