Some questions about Documentary Photography..?

I’m a junior in high school, I’ve been pondering over careers, and Documentary Photography is one that appeals to me. I love photography and i’m also interested in the history, culture, etc. of it. It seems like something I would really enjoy to do.

I just have some questions though, I’m fairly unknown with field. What would be some jobs of it? Or a good college for it? Salary, skills, and stuff. Anything, would be greatly appreciated!

thanks for your help!

i do reportage, specifically at events, and weddings.

salary: enough to have 2 wives, 4 kids, and they all went to university…
skills: so many years that the camera is an extension of my hand /eye

i started off almost 35yrs ago doing menu’s for restuarants ( i was broke and needed to eat at least)

these days, i undertake commissions, edit a magazine, write copy, photoshop everything, and make the tea…

reportage is great in that you shoot everything… but in one 8 hour shoot i can do around 2000 images… then its a weeks work shopping it all, cropping adjusting, balancing colour matches, and then you deal with the printers… all this before you get paid! average price per session £1000… sounds great, but that equates to roughly 30 pound an hour…

and i teach in 3 local community colleges… is it a good job? oh yes… the only real skills involved are technical, and they can be taught…. what you need to learn is creativity… thats what sets us apart… which is what sells.

Career in sports…..?

Ok so I want to do a career that has something to do with sports, I am leaning more toward sports broadcasting, can anyone tell me any information about that field, like how many years of college, average salary, job outlook. Or what are some other careers in the sports field that are good such as sports medicine (not really my thing just an example) or sports photography etc. A family friend of my family owns a local radio station and they go to local high school sporting events and announce on the radio so I could possibly get an intern job and try it out. Im 17 in my senior year of high school so I think it would be really good to get a head start by working at the local radio station. Is there a good website where I could find this kind of information? I tried googling it but I didnt get a ton of information.

You could get a job with a school ,you could be a coach , i dont think you need a degree.
