Photography Background Paper
Can someone tell me in regular, non-photography terms, about variable contrast paper?!?
I am doing a PowerPoint about it and need to be able to describe it to my fellow high school classmates. I have done some research and have not been very successful. I do believe though that it was produced by the DuPont Company, however I would like more background info, easily describe how it is used, and where I could find pictures using the paper? Thank You Everyone!!!!!
DuPont may have pioneered VC papers – I don’t remember – but today most major paper manufacturers make them.
Ilford calls theirs Multigrade. Kodak calls it Variable contrast.
Simply put, VC paper is paper that is used with a series of Variable contrast filters to control – what else? – contrast when printing in a conventional darkroom.
Based on the density of the original negative, or on the desired effect, a certain filter provides a certain contrast.
How’s that?

in a lot of black and white photography magazines, a lot of photos are printed on this mettallic looking background. does anyone know of any inkjet photo paper that may give me that kind of look.
No… I don’t believe it is possible with an ink jet printer… that is a special set of gray metallic inks…
