Is it worth pursuing photography when I already have a 4 year degree and would need to go back to school?
I love it and if i could work for National Geograpic and travel the world for images I would do it..I have a very good career in sales but I get lost in photography and get asked to photograph people, dogs, weddings, etc.. I don’t charge a cent..because I love it. It is truly my passion..but yet I am so amature and so inconsistant…do I need school to make my dream job a reality or can I jwing it on sheer talent, that I and others see and go with people that say to “just get your work out there?”
I wouldn’t choose the weddings or dogs..I am more into details of nature…I like abstract detail and letting others see the beauty of nature from a different perspective.
Heather my example is individual as we all are.
It took me three years study, 2 years selling camera and alot of practice/study. It took about 5 years after i finished study before I started earning real money.
Inconsistant – funny you say that, when people ask what is a professional my answer is : being able to produce Pro results everytime, anyway, under any conditions.
As for national geographic, its like this we all would like to work for them, but only a few after many many years of brilliant image making get even considered.
Try a night school course first if you find the science isnt to hard for you (eg maths, physics etc) and your results start getting better, then maybe quit the day job.
If you decide to turn your back on your previous studies, make sure you are 110% committed and are prepared to be a poor student then a poor photog for a while.

Should I get the 55-200 mm lens with the Canon Rebel T1i?
I am looking at purchasing the Canon Rebel T1i. I plan on getting the 18-55 mm lens but I am not sure whether I should also get the 55-200 mm lens. I have been interested in photography for a while but I am just getting into it more seriously. I will probably doing more nature photography. I could get the camera and 18-55 mm lens for about $750 and the camera with both lenses for about $1000. They say that you are saving about $200 by purchasing both lenses and the camera. Should I buy both lenses now or should I wait? The sale for both lenses is until the 28th but I can get the camera and 18-55 lens anytime. Also, what sort scenarios would I use the 55-200 mm lens in?
Lenses are Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS
& EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
If you don’t know why you need the 55-250 then save yourself $250 and don’t bother with it.
If you are getting into it more seriously then it is a lens you would ditch quite quickly.
Not a bad lens at all, great otpically for the price, just in use it isn’t a ‘serious’ users lens: rotating front filter, extending barrell as you zoom, not a usm or one touch ring type focus.
Take my word for it, at some point you’ll realise you want a 70-200 L lens, be it the least expensive non IS, f4, or one of the more expensive varieties. Keep your cash to put towards that.

Learn digital photography – The Seven Top Tips for beginners
The first thing that any aspiring photographer needs to learn the basics photograph of the base. Get these under your belt quickly and has already won half the battle. So what does it take for you to continue as a beginner with your first digital camera? Check out my top seven.
1. Team
It is all about equipment. Do not rush to buy expensive equipment, not knowing what you need. A sales person subject to sell as much as your wallet or credit card you take. Wait until you know what you need and what you like and match these desires with the right equipment.
2. Determine the type of photos you want to have
A good idea to surf the web gallery, look in magazines or visit your local library to get an idea of what kind of photo that I like. Try the camera and see if you can, or wanted to persevere until you can. Once you've made a list map out and shoot regularly. This practice makes perfect. Stick to what you own your kind. Only then begin to collect material according to their area of interest.
3. Decide on a structured learning plan
Find out what they want and learn what you need to know to get the kind of photos you want. For example, macro and nature photography is an art form more specialized and a number of techniques and skills to learn, and the equipment you need to buy. Search the web, read books and if possible take a course in macro photography or close.
4. Take pictures frequently
If you are regularly taking pictures that do not grow in their skills and abilities. Sets your missions depending on what they are studying. Of course, in a structured course, receive assignments. A photo a day keeps the creativity flowing and help you stay motivated. I made a transfer of 100 photos taken once on the same subject from a multitude of different angles. He gave me a shot thumb unexpected photography.
5. Learn about camera settings
Know your camera is crucial if you want to learn to take good pictures and the best way to do this is by reading your manual. Like I would tell you this. I am the last person who read a manual. But if you do it in a structured way be surprised how quickly get to know the camera. The way we did was go through the manual while stressing he already knew. Then I went through the manual reading of each section not I know, I've been practicing a lot. Once I learned that I was amazed at how much more I could do with my camera. The key is to experiment.
6. Keep your camera
Enjoy every opportunity to get a big bang. When you see something that would make a beautiful picture, it grows. I have often wished I had brought my camera with me, but I have an incredible shot. If not you, you will not receive the vaccine
7. Buy a tripod
In addition to my camera, my tripod is the single most important element of the kit in my computer bag. There are images that can be ensure that if the camera is stable. The sharpness of your photos will improve dramatically. If the benefits of using it, why not the fans?
When you start his travel photography, learning to work in a structured way so that the fundamental principles Photography has become second nature. Photography should be fun but their learning process should be serious. Good shot!
