Photography questions?

So recently I have become interested in photography. In fact, I was inspired by a 16 year old named Alexander Denomay. I have always been creative in all areas of art (I’m a dancer, sculpter, and painter). But photography is one field that I am not very educated in. I would love to learn more about it and possibly even have a career in that field. How can I learn about it? Photography has so many possibilities that I don’t even know where to begin! What kind of camera should I use? I want one that isn’t that difficult to operate but has many settings/options so that I can still use the same one even after I learn more about photography shots. Does anyone have any advice for me? Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
By the way, here is a link to a few of Alexander’s pieces. I would love to be able to create photography like he does!

He uses a Canon XTi. That’s what I use as well. It is a fantastic camera.

Keep in mind it doesn’t matter what camera you buy, it will only be as good as you can utilize it.

It looks like he might use photoshop to mess around with the curve levels, giving it that vintage look.

I’m writing a speech on this subject as it interests me,
please can you give me your answer and a reason..
some people will think it is an art form but i’m sure people with a different view will also comment so i have both views to comment on

I didn’t think it was an art form, but just a numbers game. (Take more photographs, get more good photographs, ta-da). I changed my mind on holiday about the skill levels since I went with a mate who is really into photography. We both photographed a bridge with the same camera, and it was immediately apparent that his superior knowledge of lighting, technique, framing and exposure made a very big difference to the images he was able to capture. I was duly converted to the idea that it requires real skill.. but is it art? I still don’t know. I know it helps to have technique, for absolute sure, but then you need to be in the right place at the right time, and have a lot of luck.
