Freelance photography for insurance companies?

I found a website that claims to help photographers find jobs
taking freelance photos of commercial & residential property,
vehicles, warehouses, etc. for insurance companies and banks.
Presumably they need to keep track of their interest for some reason
and don’t have enough adjustors to send out on all the routine checks
that need to be done. Is this a legitimate business, and what is this work called by the insurance companies? Also, the guy who offers this guide says that it’s not necessary to have a professional camera, that a regular digital camera will do most of the time. Should I invest the $20 into this?

Sounds scammy to me….

Insurance adjusters are usually professional people, who know how to asses damage and put a price tag on it. Taking pictures is their responsibility, and it requires no skill as a photographer. All they need is snap the photos of damages to include them into file, and to use as evidence in any disputes if they arise. I’ve never seen an insurance adjuster accompanied by a photographer, nor a photographer without an adjuster…

So just $20 for a nice job requiring no skill or serious equipment… Doesn’t it sound a bit too good to be true? And we know well, if it sounds too good to be true – it probably is.

LEM.

Small business insurance?

I am looking to get insurance for my photography business but I am clueless as to where I would get such thing. Do I add renters insurance or commercial insurance to my current vehicle insurance through Progressive or do I need to get a separate policy? My photography business is not my sole source of income, but it does make up a percentage. I did a Google search on small business insurance and most results I get don’t seem legit. Can someone point me to a company that has good coverage for about $5000 worth of gear?
No office space. It’s all on location, right now. A studio won’t be set in my home for a few years, so no worries about that.
I do weddings and the insurance is for that reason. I didn’t have it last year, but only did a handful. The business is sole proprietor, so I do not need payroll.

You cannot add renters insurance or business insurance to your auto policy.

Business insurance is separate, and renters insurance only covers $250 of business property, and NO business liability.

You need a local agent – you cannot buy this insurance DIRECTLY from an insurance company. The exact coverage you need, depends on what KIND of photography you do, and where you go. With no studio, you’re probably not “bop eligible”, so budget $1,000 for insurance.

You can FIND a local agent at www.iiaba.net
